I left Dursley in 1951 aged 16, to emigrate to Australia. My school was the Grammar School.
Over the years I have visited the town several times and even now still keep in touch with several old school friends.
I have fond memories of my childhood in Dursley and in particular I am still moved when looking at photos that I have of the end of WW2, of a street party celebration in Rosebery Road, where I lived. Good luck to all Dursleyans.

Found this web site - has Dursley and Cam ever changed. I can remember them removing the track at Cam station, one of my earliest memories. I can remember the old original Coop in Cam. Born and lived in the area from the 60's until about 1989 when I moved to Lancashire then in 1990 moved to Suffolk. Still in the area every couple of weeks.
Went to Cam Hopton and Rednock schools.

Ref - Wartime evacuation to Pear Tree Farm, Cam
My wife & I are bringing my 87 year old father in law to Cam in February in order for him to try & retrace some of his boyhood time from his wartime evacuation from Suffolk, to Pear Tree Farm, Cam. While there he attended Dursley Grammar school.
We have been looking to try & find information about Pear Tree Farm but seem unable to find it.
We would be very interested to hear if it still exists & any other information about Cam at this time
Denis Booth Friday, 30 January 2015 00:15
I'm sure there was a Pear Tree Farm, Upper Cam (Upthorpe), just off the main drag on the left hand side before the playing field. I'm sure Farmer Allen was the last owner I know of in the 90's? Sorry bit late in response, have just found this site.

There was Pear Orchard Farm owned by Allens.

My maternal grandmother, Mary Constance Morgan, was born in Dursley in 1877.She came to Queensland in 1898 with her brother, Andrew. Andrew went back to Dursley but Mary married and settled in Cairns, Queensland. I have been to Dursley 3 times and love the place. I have stayed with my cousin Ron Powell and his wife Marlene in Dursley. Thank you for a wonderful website.

Hi Christine, I was in class 4A when I left in 63. We had a Christine in my class but I'm sure her name was Morgan. Form master was the kind Mr Ward who taught English. Maths was Mr Radcliffe, Music the strange Mr Sheethsbe? and History Miss Broad and Mr Watkins. I think Carol Orchard was also in my class. I'm on facebook but not much info posted. spent 25 years travelling finally landing at Lowestoft where I teach at the local college. Nice to hear a voice from the past

Great site I just bought the house that used to be the Cross Keys Inn and I'm trying to find out more about it... every link seems to lead here eventually!
Joff Trotman Thursday, 5 March 2015 19:22
Hi,
I have just found your post. The Cross Keys Inn has a connection with my family history.
Edward Trotman, my Grand father’s elder brother became Land lord of the Cross Keys Inn some time in the 1920’s and remained at the Inn until his death in 1931.
Edward was married to Elizabeth French. The French family had a long association with the Cross Keys. Elizabeth was born in the Inn. Her father, Henry French, became land lord when he took over from his step father John Ridley in 1874.
After Edwards Trotman’s death in 1931, the Inn was taken over by Albert G Owen.
I do hope that this information is of use to you and I hope that your house is a happy one.

Hello. I was walking through the newest phase of the Littlecombe site and found a stairway full of rubble and I cleared it out and found that it led to a vaulted arched cellar or an air raid shelter. It's a large room but I could not see all the way in as it was dark but I threw a stone and it took ages to hit the other side so it's quite a long room. Just thought I would mention it as this will be gone very soon courtesy of Bury Dursley and Co. Builders Ltd.
