Hello
I grew up in Dursley and am glad to see that someone has taken the time to create a website. The town has been through some hard times, but as a fundamentally attractive place I'm sure it will return to its former glory.
Good luck with the site!

Thanks for taking all the time and effort. I was born in Dursley and lived there till 1979. I was sent your site by my niece living in Vancouver Canada. I have been able to show her my friend Rebekah's new house as it is in one of your pictures! Excellent. I'll be checking it regularly.

Andy, thank you for building such a great web site. The virtual tour page was especially appreciated. It was a pleasure to be able to visit Dursley and take a walk around the town and countryside from so far away. I also enjoyed listening to the recollections of Dursley folk in the audio files. I was born and raised in Dursley during the fifties and sixties. A descendant of the Harris family. Many of my relatives still live in the same area of Upper and Lower Poole Rd where my Grandfather George resided. I always remember sitting in the garden of that home looking at the surrounding countryside and listening to my Uncle Wilfred tell me "that no matter where in the world he had travelled he had never been anywhere as beautiful”. I think he may have been right. Regards from the great white north.

My father bought 8hp diesel Lister Engine about thirty years ago. It is still stronger than the latest engines they brought to our hometown, with some broken down. Some too worked for only five years, but ours is still going strong with only crankshaft changed. So I thank R.A. Lister Co. Ltd.

Regret SH work has held up this. Have masses of info & 100s of images to web inc back to 1830 & 3kB.C. Will be keen to link to you. Can meet you to view some prints etc. We first met at Mawdsley's demolition. Your efforts - brilliant! J.

Very interesting site. I lived in Cam (Summerhayes) between 1963 and 1977 and my parents are still there. My interest in the history of the place has been reawakened by following the correspondence in the Gazette about Dursley Castle - I wrote a letter referring to the old tower at Norman Hill that I used to play in in the late 1960s. Any idea as to what it might be and when it was first erected? Now under the Norman Hill housing estate. Regards and keep up the good work.

Superb site - excellent shots of Mawdsley's - have worked there for a few years with Rich - I didn't realise there were so many old photos still in existence.

Great site. I lived in Dursley for five years 74-80 and used to enjoy the many walks up Stinchcombe Hill with fantastic views over the Severn. Is the pub at Waterley Bottom still going strong?
Andy Monday, 22 December 2003 18:25
Yes, The New Inn at Waterley Bottom is still a favourite watering hole. A few pints gives you strength to climb the hill on the way back to Dursley!

Can anyone help me get hold of good copies of two photographs.? They are: An aerial photo of Listers and Dursley Railway station in 1929. This appears in a Dursley history book and I'm interested in this one because I think that it shows my house under construction. The second is of the Dursley railway sidings in about 1920/30s and appears in a Dursley history book and Peter Smith's Dursley branch book. Please contact me if you have copies of either of these photos. Thanks.

I really enjoyed this site even though I haven't left the area. It was very interesting. I enjoyed the photos, both past and present.
