I worked for Lister's from 1950 to 1964. For some years I was in digs in Dursley, Upper Cam, and Coaley before being posted to Argentina. I had many good friends in Dursley, and if any are still around it would be great to hear from you.

What a great site. I have recently discovered ancestors from the Dursley/Cam/Cheltenham areas. It's great to see photo's that I can relate them to.
So far I have Drake, Summers, Butcher, Perkins family connections.
Most seem to have been Baptised and then married and then buried at St James Church!

I was born in Cam, 1935, at the Netherton Nursing Home. Does anyone have a photo of it please. I am researching my family history. I went to the Upper Cam C of E School and on to the Preparatory class of Dursley Grammar School, the Autumn term of 1946, Anyone still around from those days.

I'm researching my family history, and discovered that my great-great-great-grandmother and her family ran the New Bell Inn in Long Street and are recorded there in the 1851 census. She was born Eliza Roberts, and was Eliza French in 1851. The census return seems to imply that the New Bell was next door to the Old Bell - can anyone verify this?

I am researching the life and times of Barry Simmons who was a teacher at the school, probably in the 1950s. I would be grateful for any information or anecdotes about him for my book.

I used to spend most holidays at my grandparents' (Percy & Blanch Ashworth) house in Everlands, Cam when I was growing up in the 50's/60's. My brother and I used to often walk from the back of the orchard (braving the fierce geese there!), through the fields from my grandparents, to the A1435, coming out at the police station by the main road. (This was in the time mostly before the police station) From there we'd cross over the road and take the footpath behind the houses, up the "Rabbit Hole" as our family called it, up onto Stinchcombe Hill. On our way through the fields from Everlands we passed through a small field which my mother always called The Laggers. This confirms what has been researched on one of the messages here.

I recently had a dream about a girl I was friends with back in the 1960's when I was working at Listers.
Her name was Carol Dukes, the family lived on the Dursley Road on the way out to Woodfield. Her mother was related to my landlady Ellen Smith. I believe she took up Nursing.
Can any one offer any information on her currently.

I am researching the military career of an adopted son of Dursley who lived there after the War and until his death in the late 1990s. His name was Kazimierz Piechna and he served throughout WW2 as a wireless operator/air gunner with the Wellington bombers of 304 Squadron. Can anybody please help? My grandparents lived in the cottages at Tilsdown between the wars and they gave their address as The Laggers.

I am a member of Cam Parish Council's Neighbourhood Development Plan Steering Group and would be most grateful if any of your members could help with my query. The Neighbourhood Development Plan is proposing 12 local green spaces and one area is a grassed triangular area off Mill Way /Nordown Road in Cam which is used by local people for dog walking etc.. A member of the public has referred to this area as "The Laggers's" this correct? Another person believes that The Laggers is the green area of land off Nordown Lane which has a path leading to Spouthouse Lane.

I am the fourth great grandson of John Lodge (1770-?) and Mary Powell (1770-?). john and Mary were born in Uley, married in 1794 had a family of ten children. the oldest being my third great grandfather James Lodge. If you are collecting genealogy information on families I can provide you with considerable info on this family. John and Mary lived in a house in Dursley owed by Mrs. Gregory from 1794 until at least 1810. Would love to find its exact location. I also have a letter written in 1847 by Joseph Lodge the second oldest child to his brother James. It reveals much about the times. Can send a copy with a transcription if you care for a copy. I am planning a visit in 2019 to Dursley.
