I moved to Great Yarmouth in 1985 from London... I love to look into the past of Gt Yarm.
Great site with loads of information.... hope it grows bigger with more photos and information (I want to know what Lawn Avenue was like when the trains ran along the rear of some of the houses.

Chris at the Berney Inn says the sails are due to go on at the end of the month but we have also been told they will not be on till 2005 by others!!
The next Berney Arms Reunion will be held at the Berney Arms Inn on Sunday 5th September 2004. Anyone interested in Berney Arms is welcome to come along.

Very informative site!! Well Done. And Keep It Up!

Do you know if the sails are back up on the Berney Arms? They seem to have been down for quite some time!!

I'm not sure but I don't believe the sails will go back until 2005.

The latest information is that the sails should be back on the mill this year.

Thanks for a good site.
The Berney Windmill is still in the process of being renovated. (April 2004) The outer walls have now been painted but the sails of the mill are still off and have not been replaced with new ones.
The Berney Arms Pub serves good food and is well worth a visit. There is a separate restaurant at the back of the pub.

smile I was stationed over there in the Air Force at Sheperds Grove left there in 58. Did travel with an airman by the name of Buddy Francis. We went to Gt. Yarmouth a lot. He married a girl by the name of Audrey.
We had a lot of fun over there, a lot of good times. I still email a nurse over in Gorleston. good site. Dick

I was brought up in Norfolk, moved down there when I was three from Aberdeen. Although I moved back up when I was nine, I still regard Norfolk as home. I had the happiest childhood anyone could wish for - esp in great yarmouth with the fun fairs and the shows, the great weather (its better than the North of Scotland - I can tell you!)

Wally's Windmill - anyone remember that? Going out into the broads on a boat.

I always have been drawn back to East Anglia and I always will!

p.s I always keep an eye on how the canaries are doing.

hopefully when greater anglia railways takes over from anglia railways they will improve the train service to and from berney arms railway station as it is farcical at present for all the passengers with anglia rover tickets who would like to visit the mill the pub and the river at that point particularly as it is a very long way to walk there from the village by footpath there being no road and few people have a boat as the only other means of access see what you can do a train about once an hour alternately each way giving a two ho#@*%!y service in one direction from about 8am to 5pm in winter and say 9pm in summer

Welcome to the Berney Arms Web and thank you for visiting my local history pages. Unfortunately the original guestbook has experienced problems lately and all the old comments have been lost. I have now set up this new one and would be very pleased to receive any messages or questions relating to Berney Arms or the immediate area. If you left a message previously then please feel free to do so again. I am also keen to receive any feedback on the website content.
