Gallows Bridge
Gallows Bridge
Hi, does anyone know the name of the bridge over what used to be the railway track from the Everlands to Upper Cam. We used to call it the Galus bridge but I don't know if it's right or if it was the Gallows bridge. I was told that a young boy fell through the bridge when it was made of wood and was killed - he was buried in Cam churchyard. That was why it it was changed to a steel bridge. Has anyone any idea if this is true and why it was called what it is? Thanks Chris

Re: Gallows Bridge
Hi Chris I think Gallows and Gallus/Galus are used interchangeably for this bridge and the story of a boy dying is apparently true. I have heard his name mentioned but I will need to check it.

Thanks Andy, if you could find out why it was named Gallows Bridge I would be most grateful.

I remember having to cross the wooden Gallows Bridge on my way to school at Upper Cam. The boy that fell from the bridge was named Isles, I can't remember his first name, and I am sure that he lived in St. Georges Road.
