Workman Bros. Cam. Glos.

Post by Dick Best »

I have an old clothes brush on which is the title "Workman Bros. Cam. Glos."
It is in perfect condition and originally belonged to my grandmother. As I
am now 83, it is probably at least 100 years old. I think my grandmother
was related to or connected with the manufacturer. Does anyone have any
information concerning the maker ?

Thanks.

Hello Dick

Workman Bros. operated a flour mill in Draycott, which is part of Cam, next to Dursley. The mill offices are still there. If you look at the Cam page on my website and scroll through the Cam slide show you will see a picture of Draycott Mill, which was owned by Workman's. Workman is also quite a common name in the area.

I hope that helps.

Thanks for the information Andy. I can only assume that the name on the brush is not to indicate the makers but the owners ! !
Looks like their precautions didn't work ............... there's no doubt a good story as to how it came to be in my grandmother's
possession but we shall never know.

Dick.
