Re: Old photographs of Dursley, Cam and Uley

I don't think numbers have been affected. In fact it has more exposure now as it gets frequent mentions by others who know about it. The Facebook site is great but not so much as a reference source as the pictures very quickly get 'lost' in previous postings. There is also a lot of erroneous informa...

Re: Gallows Bridge

Hi Chris I think Gallows and Gallus/Galus are used interchangeably for this bridge and the story of a boy dying is apparently true. I have heard his name mentioned but I will need to check it.

Re: Films at the Chantry Centre

Hello Ron The auditorium being used as a cinema in Dursley is still called the Lister Hall, but this is part of the overall Chantry Centre. The 300 seat Victoria Cinema in Silver Street (which became the Odeon in 1937) closed in the 1950s, having initially operated as a Temperance Hall and then a li...

Re: Calling all ex-Lister apprentices!

Hello Ian. There are no records left with the company any more. All remaining records were transferred to Gloucester Archives but I think it may be some time before they are made available and I'm not sure they contain any details of apprentices. If you leave your father's name and any details you h...

Thanks for that Chris. If you manage to get confirmation that it's him that would be great.

Re: Pub tales

You've mentioned them both now Ron. They are both mentioned on the main website though - I can only add information if people provide it to me. I'd certainly like to hear more about any of the pubs in town - I still can't find a photo of the Lamb Inn as an example. Do you have any tales to tell whic...

Re: Gloucester to Bristol coaching route in C18th

Hi Jon
Thanks for the post. I'll take a look at the route when I can. Stinchcombe Hill was used as part of a coaching route. Where are you getting your existing information from?

Re: Scouts groups

Hi Ron. Unfortunately I can only add information if I have it available to me and even then I have to prioritise what I add as there is never enough time for everything and only me to do it. Of course anyone can add a new subject in the forum at any time so hopefully someone will see your post and a...

'Gossip' was indeed a newsletter sent out during the war years, aimed at keeping employees in touch with those who had gone to serve in the forces. I have several copies of this.

Hello Jack The Heritage Centre is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays between 10.30am and 12.30pm. As for the CD you would need to contact the Gloucestershire Family History Society directly. It's not sold at the Heritage Centre. It seems to cost £10 currently, see: http://gf...

You can buy a modern transcription of the 1845 tithe map from Geoff Gwatkin at:

I hope that helps.

Re: The Hurcombe Family

Hi Liz

I see there have been previous Hurcombe enquiries on this forum. I think one may have actually been you back in 2011 but have you followed the other one up as there were several replies to it.
