Re: Norman Hill House, Cam
Hi Dave, welcome to the forum. Interesting mention about the wall being listed as I've just searched my document of listed buildings and structures for Cam and can't see anything that resembles it. Listed building status only began in Britain on January 1st 1950 and it would have been many years bef...

Memories of Dursley Rovers football club?
Does anyone have any memories or photos of Dursley Rovers AFC? This was one of the football teams that used to play in the town in the early years of the 20th century. Thanks, Andy

Re: Norman Hill House, Cam
Hello Pat
The date for the aerial views is around 1925 (it's in the caption of each photo) so that ties in with the 1933 date you give for the building of 12 houses. Where on the photo would The Croft be? I'm not familiar with it. Thanks, Andy

Hi Rich
Could you tell me when Bert would have played cricket and bowls and Charles football? What teams were they in? I do have many sports photos and they could be in some of them. Is this Bert Hughes anything to do with the Bert Hughes who was once editor of the Gazette?

Re: Norman Hill House, Cam
A little bit of background on the people who lived at Norman Hill House. In the 1860s it was lived in by Arthur Brend Winterbotham, who along with Thomas Hunt, owned Hunt & Winterbotham's cloth mill in Cam. On 15th Sep 1863 Arthur Brend Winterbotham (3rd son of Lindsey Winterbotham of Stroud) ma...

Thought you might be interested in this snippet from "The Bristol Mercury and Daily Post" for Wednesday, December 21st, 1881. "WORKMEN'S TREAT, On Saturday evening last, by the kindness of A, B, Winterbotham, Esq., the works people recently employed by Mr. T. Bloodworth, builder, of t...

Re: Norman Hill House, Cam
Here's a close-up of the front of Norman Hill House taken after a cricket match between Cam Mills and Dursley. The gentleman to the left of the batsmen is Herbert Brend Winterbotham who became President of Cam Cricket Club and later played a part in setting up the Everlands ground in the 1920s. The ...

Hi Rich
I've attached another photo which shows Hunt & Winterbotham's mill (Cam Mills) in the background alongside Everlands. Chapel Street, Station Road and Upper Cam are centre left. Tilsdown is at the extreme bottom left corner of the picture. Most of this is now under houses!

Re: Norman Hill House, Cam
The main road, 'Tilsdown', runs in the foreground out of picture and the mill of Hunt & WInterbotham is out of picture in the background. The trees to the lower left are still there and mark the entrance to the house off the main road. I'll post a more complete view later.

Norman Hill House, Cam
There has been a lot of discussion on the guestbook about Norman Hill House in Cam and the 'tower' which existed in the grounds so I thought I'd post a picture of the house here. I'm not sure exactly where the tower was in relation to the house though. Can anyone indicate where it is or was on the p...

There were air raid shelters on Kingshill Road, next to and opposite the old Regal cinema. R.A. Lister also had its own shelter within the factory site.
