Re: Norman Hill House, Cam
Thanks for that Ken, I only heard of the one son, That's not to say thats right! I hope you have read all the posts about the house, such a shame that it had to be demolished. P.S, I don't suppose you have any photo's to do with the estate?

Re: Norman Hill House, Cam
Hi Ken, do you recall their son and what became of him? Why was the estate left to decay and when was it demolished and was it true it was set on fire?
Also were there any houses in Holywell orchard? Thanks for any imformation you can remember.
from Rich.

Re: Norman Hill House, Cam
Ian, It was your original post on the guestbook that got me wondering about this, then what a postman told me and when Dave mentioned it on the guestbook also I felt this needed looking into. Thanks for your input. Andy, I am looking forward to what you may dig up. My main aim was to find the locati...

Re: Norman Hill House, Cam
It was by chance i saw that the wall was sticking out further. That was because I pulled a load of ivy off which was covering it. Until then I assumed it was a wall and the tower was lost! To clear all the rubble from on, in, and around the tower would be hard work with possibly little reward! Maybe...

Re: Norman Hill House, Cam
Dave, looking at Andy's photo's you can see the tower was approx 3 times the size it is now. It looks like they just scooped off half the wall and tower, GOD KNOWS WHY! Perhaps to level it out with the much longer wall on the other side maybe?
Were the steps inside the tower made of stone?

Re: Norman Hill House, Cam
Hi Dave, Andy agrees that the remains of the tower are still present, shame you weren't able to come. We looked over the site, the wall, footpath, etc. then went to the spring in Holywell orchard to view the plaques and demolition rubble (apparently there were 2-3 houses in the orchard), then walked...

Re: Norman Hill House, Cam
Andy, On your latest map, if you go across the playing fields to a large orchard in a field with "Spring" marked on it, there are 3 plaques surrounding the top of the stream telling of a Nun that went there to drink the water regularly (hence the name Holy Well Orchard). Also of a gardener...

Re: Norman Hill House, Cam
That's spot on as far as I can see. Thanks for all the time and effort you have spent on this. That is case closed I think? The pond is surrounded by trees in your second pic.

Re: Norman Hill House, Cam
I thought as much, so the estate was longer than it was wide. I'm glad the 3 trips up there were worthwhile. There is also a footpath with Victorian gate posts that runs up by the tower from the new estate.

Re: Norman Hill House, Cam
Like I said Andy, from your second photo I know exactly where the estate was. To me it's just a case of working out if that protruding wall (that joins to the main wall) IS the remains of the now famous tower. If it is (JOB DONE). If it isn't then the tower is, like you say, further down, meaning th...
