Re: Newth
Hi Bob The information I have about James Newth is that he was born in Dursley in 1814; became a cabinet maker following the trade of his father, also James. He moved premises around Dursley until in the 1860s he settled in Long Street roughly opposite the present Gazette works (Reliance House). His...

Re: Webb family
Hi Anita The Webbs have been in Dursley for a long time. One of the town's oldest buildings. the Priory, was built in 1520 by a clothier, Edward Webb. As for Charles Webb, you mention his first marriage. Was he ever married to someone called Bessie (Elizabeth?). I have several pictures of a Charles ...

Re: The Shipways of Dursley
I was told that Thomas Shipway married Ann Jenner and that she was the sister of Dr Edward. I know this is incorrect and would like to find out if there was a connection betweenThomas's wife Ann and the other members of the Dr's family. Thomas and Ann with 8 children left Dursley and moved to Londo...

Re: Petter
I wonder if anyone in Dursley has a copy of a certain book that they would be willing to give or sell to me. Hi Stephen. I do actually have a copy of this book myself but unfortunately I want to retain it as I had a job to track it down. The best place I've found for secondhand books is www.abebook...

Re: What happened to Lister-Petter?
Point 1: I've just joined this Forum and I'm a bit surprised to see this section is called Lister not Lister-Petter! Good point. I guess it's because the section deals predominantly with the origins of the company in Dursley and its earlier history, i.e. when it was R.A. Lister. Lister-Petter does ...

Mawdsley's stories
What was it like to work at the Mawdsley's factory along Uley Road? Does anyone recall the company's products and the work that went into making and testing them.

Pub tales
Who recalls the many pubs that Dursley used to have in days gone by - The Crown in Long Street, the Lamb Inn next to the Priory, the Star and Boot Inn in Silver Street or maybe the Bell & Castle in Parsonage Street. What were they like? Any good tales to tell? If so please do share them here.

Shops in Long Street, Parsonage Street and Silver Street
I'm trying to collate a list of the town's shops that used to operate in the town's three main shopping streets. If you know of any, where they were and when they were open I'd be grateful for any details.
