Re: The Cretchley Family
Dear Tracey, Thanks very much for this information. You can see from the various responses I have had to my original post, that I am building up a quite large picture of the many descendants of Cretchley daughters who married and had children. This is really very interesting for me. If you would be ...

Re: The Cretchley Family
Dear Bob, Thank you for your post. Maria was actually the daughter of Philip and Elizabeth Cretchley. She was baptised on 29/1/1837 in Dursley and had eight brothers and sisters. These were Anne (bpt 14/3/1828), Mary (bpt 6/12/1829), William Neale (born 10/2/1832 - my direct ancestor)), Sarah (bpt 3...

Re: RICKETTS FAMILY
Dear Andy - I cannot help a great deal, but if you look in the section relating to my family, you will see in the exchange of correspondence I had with Jane, that our common ancestor Elizabeth Cretchley married William Ricketts on 8th November 1829 in Dursley. I suspect William may be related to Tho...

Re: The Cretchley Family
Dear Frank, Thanks for your response. You can see from my post to Jane on 9th Feb. 2009, details of Ann Cretchley's brother and sisters. I would be very interested in seeing details of your family tree going back to Ann and Luke Parslow if you could send them to me, (address in above post). If you w...

Re: The Cretchley Family
Dear Keith, Ten years ago I was in correspondence with your brother Brian regarding your family history, and as to whether there was a link with my family. (He may still have my letters.) I did some research for him on your family in the Gloucestershire Records Office, as Samuel Cretchley was born i...

Re: The Cretchley Family
Dear Jane, You are correct, Elizabeth Cretchley was the daughter of John and Maria. She was baptised on 11th September 1808 in Dursley, and married William Ricketts (Rickitts) on 8th November 1829 in Dursley. I have no further details on her, and would be interested in seeing your family tree going ...

Re: The Thurston family from Dursley
Sarah - The Dursley Parish Records are all stored in the Gloucestershire County Records Office, in the city of Gloucester, a short distance from the cathedral and city centre. Copies are available on microfiche for public viewing, and you can take photocopies of entries. It's well worth a visit. - B...

The Cretchley Family
My late father and I have conducted extensive research at the Gloucestershire Records Office into our family which lived in Dursley from 1739 until the late nineteenth century. Our surname "Cretchley" was also recorded as "Cratchley", "Scratchley" and "Critchley&qu...

Re: Newth
Hi Russell. You mention Newth in your list of surnames. I have a photo of James Newth, taken at the end of the 19th century when he was the town's oldest resident, over 100 years old.
I was very interested to see your reference to James Newth. I suspect this is...
